Jack Axelrod, General Hospital Actor and Grey’s Anatomy Guest, Dead at 93

Jack Axelrod, best known for playing General Hospital‘s Victor Jerome, has died. He was 93 years old.

Axelrod’s representative confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he died of natural causes on Nov. 28.

During his decades-long career, Axelrod appeared in several notable TV series. He played mob boss Victor Jerome, originating the role, between 1987 and 1989 on the ABC soap General Hospital

; he recurred as “Electrolarynx Guy” on the NBC comedy My Name Is Earl from 2005 to 2008; and he appeared in three episodes of Grey’s Anatomy as patient Charlie Yost — memorably nicknamed “Really Old Guy” — whose quiet room became a place of respite for the Seattle Grace interns during lunch hour in the ABC drama’s third season.

Axelrod appeared in countless other series including Dallas, Dynasty, Night Court, Knots Landing, Everybody Loves Raymond, Boy Meets World, Frasier, The Help, Scrubs, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Hawthorne, Shameless, NCIS, Hawai’i: Five-0, Modern Family and more.

He also made his mark on the big screen, garnering his first career acting credit in 1971 for his appearance in Woody Allen’s Bananas, starring Allen, Louise Lasser and Carlos Montalban. Axelrod went on to have roles in Hancock (2008), Winged Creatures (2008), Little Fockers (2010), Super 8 (2011), J. Edgar (2011) and The Lone Ranger (2013), among others.
