Several Emmy favorites that have wrapped up their runs are looking for one last win in this year’s race for Best Comedy Series. But a fresh wave of newcomers is ready to knock them off their perch, too.
The eight comedy series nominees include at least two acclaimed shows saying goodbye: Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, up for the fifth time, including a win back in 2018; and HBO’s Barry
The rest of the field, though, is made up of relative spring chickens, all in their first or second seasons. The freshmen contenders include Hulu’s culinary pressure cooker The Bear, Netflix’s altogether ooky Addams Family reinvention Wednesday and Amazon Freevee’s inspired prank comedy Jury Duty. Joining them are a pair of celebrated sophomores back for the second straight year: ABC’s schoolroom sitcom Abbott Elementary and Hulu’s tongue-in-cheek murder mystery Only Murders in the Building.
