Anthony Anderson to Host 2023 Emmys

The 75th Emmy Awards, delayed due to Hollywood’s now-resolved labor disputes, has finally found its host: black-ish star Anthony Anderson will emcee the event live from the Peacock Theater at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles.

The ceremony (which was originally scheduled for Sept. 18) will now air on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 15, with the live broadcast kicking off at 8/7c on Fox.

“With our industry’s recent challenges behind us, we can get back to what we love — dressing up and honoring ourselves. And there’s no better celebratory moment to bring the creative community together than the milestone 75th Emmy Awards,” Anderson said in a statement. “When Fox asked me to host this historic telecast, I was over the moon that Taylor Swift was unavailable, and now I can’t wait to be part of the biggest night in television.”

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards, originally scheduled for Sept. 9 and 10, will now take place at the Peacock Theater at LA Live on Saturday, Jan. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 7. An edited version of the ceremony will air Saturday, Jan. 13 at 8 pm on FXX.

The last time Fox hosted the main event, in 2019, the Emmys went host-less, while the pandemic-era ceremonies were emceed by Jimmy Kimmel (for ABC in 2020) and Cedric the Entertainer (CBS, 2021). SNL’s Kenan Thompson took the mic for NBC’s 2022 broadcast.

Nominations for the 75th Emmys were announced on July 12, with HBO’s Succession leading the pack at 27 total nominations. Fellow HBO darlings The Last of Us and The White Lotus followed with 24 and 23 nods, respectively, and Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso boasted 21 contenders. (Refresh your memory on the full list here.)

With the Emmys now set for mid-January, they’ll fall after the Golden Globes (scheduled for Jan. 7), the SAG Awards (Jan. 10) and the Critics’ Choice Awards (Jan. 14).
